Homemade WHISKEY without tools

Today’s SPECTACULAR recipe suggested by our friend Mehdi 🤩. In fact, with easily accessible ingredients from the store or online, we can prepare a homemade WHISKEY in just 10 days that provides the same satisfaction as a 10-year-aged WHISKEY.

It’s clear that this is a homemade whiskey without distillation, so calling it a whiskey is technically incorrect, but guys, with this disclaimer, the result is still satisfying. Seeing is believing.

 

INGREDIENTS

ETHYL ALCOHOL 96%      450 ml

WATER                                 300 ml

SUGAR CANE                           1 teaspoon

OAK WOOD                         100 g

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Take the wood and place it in a glass jar with a lid or closure.

2) Pour boiling water into the jar. Close the jar and let the wood soak for 12 hours. (This step is necessary to remove resins and any tannins from the wood that would impart undesirable flavors). If you use Jack Daniel’s Smoking Chips   for your homemade whiskey you can skip step 1,2,3,4,5 and go directly to step 6.

3) After 12 hours, remove the wood and rinse it under running water. Arrange it in a baking tray and let it dry for another 12 hours.

4) Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F) and toast the wood for about an hour.

5) Leave the wood in the oven and turn on the grill to the highest setting for half an hour. Place the tray as close to the grill as possible. It took about 20 minutes in my oven. Adjust this step according to your oven.

6) Put the treated 100 g of wood back into the jar and add the alcohol and water.

8) After our 10 days have passed, we open the jar, add 1 teaspoon of sugar cane, close it, and flip it upside down a couple of times to dissolve the sugar.

9) Transfer the homemade whiskey into a suitable and visually appealing bottle and “wow” we can trick our expert friends with it, without revealing who made it or how it was made.
